PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said that the government is taking concrete steps for rehabilitation and development of infrastructure in Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA).

He said while presiding over a meeting on progress of repatriation of Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) in Peshawar on Friday. He was informed about the problems faced by the TDPs due to extreme cold weather.

The Governor said that out of 76,294 families, 36,336 families have been repatriated to their native areas while arrangement would be made in near future to let the remaining people find their place at home.

The people of Alikhel tribe of North Waziristan Agency on the other hand called upon the government to pay special attention to reconstruction of houses in the area.

About 500 families of Alikhel tribe of Miranshah returned after operation Zarb-e-Azb, but the people said not even a single house in the area is intact in its original condition. So the government needs to provide us the basic needs to construct houses on such a large scale. The Governor has directed the assistant political agent Miranshah, Muhammad Anwar Khan Shirani who was fully aware of the problems faced by Alikhel tribe and will make efforts for earlier resolution of these problems.

The Protestants said cold weather has already made their lives difficult, while rains have further complicated the situation and they are finding it difficult to find shelter.

“We even cannot afford to remove debris and recognize original location of our houses. There is no use of return of displaced people when there is no facility”.
