Prime Minister Imran Khan, in his message on International Women’s Day, vowed to ensure a secure and enabling environment for the rightful role of women in the nation’s development. In a tweet on Friday, the premier paid homage to Fatima Jinnah, the sister of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, for standing steadfastly beside the Quaid in his struggle for Pakistan. “We reaffirm our commitment to ensuring women a secure and enabling environment to play their rightful role in our nation’s development,” he added.

International Women’s Day is commemorated across the world on March 8. The Aurat March 2019 took place in all major cities of Pakistan on Friday to commemorate the International Women’s Day. The primary march commenced at 3:30 PM in Karachi at the famed Frere Hall, where women, trans, and non-binary folks then took the procession to the Abdullah Haroon Road towards the main rally. Various other groups of civil rights activists also participated in Aurat Marches in Lahore, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Hyderabad, Peshawar, and Mardan.
