KARACHI: The disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family would not make any difference to national politics, said Fawad Chaudhry, the spokesman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

“No harm to democracy if Nawaz Sharif or his family members quit politics,” he said while addressing a press conference at the Insaf House here on Saturday. He said that he Panama revelations have entered into the final round and the Supreme Court of Pakistan would complete its proceedings within the next two weeks.

He said that the Panama scandal has taken seven months and all those papers submitted by Maryam Nawaz in the court have not been signed by her. PTI Chairman Imran Khan decided to focus on Sindh especially in Karachi as the province also wants change because rulers have done nothing for them, he said.

He also said that PTI has started preparations of the next general elections in the country. “After completion of Naeem Bukhari’s arguments, Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer will start his arguments. Maryam Nawaz is the front-women of Nawaz Sharif and she is also the beneficiary of off-shore company. The statements and speeches of Nawaz Sharif and his family are not same,” he added.

He said that Nawaz Sharif has to provide complete details and evidence of his assets from 1993 to 2006. Salman Akram Raja would defend Nawaz Sharif in the court as he (Raja) was opposing the prime minister on the Panama Papers since its emergence, the PTI spokesman added. The Supreme Court will complete its proceedings in the next two weeks regarding Panama Papers as it has entered its final round, he said.

He said that disqualification of Nawaz Sharif and his family would not make any difference to the country’s politics. “National exchequer has been burdened by paying heavy fees to lawyers and all government resources have been utilized to defend the prime minister on the Panama scandal,” he added.

Replying to a query, he said that the revelations in the Panama Papers were universal issue not a personal matter of Imran Khan. It was a serious issue of billion of rupees money that belongs to the nation, he said.
