PFA destroys 750kg of rotten fruits during raids at bazaars

LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has destroyed around 750kg of rotten fruit during raids at Sunday bazaars on Sunday across the city.

According to details, the raids were conducted in several zones of the city under the supervision of PFA Director Operation Rafia Haider along with PFA team members. The PFA teams also visited Model Town Sunday Bazaar and checked the quality of food, vegetables and other essential commodities.

On the occasion, around 400kg of rotten fruits was destroyed. The PFA teams also warned several shopkeepers against quality of food and vegetables.

During a raid at Johar Town Sunday Bazaar near Mian Plaza, the teams destroyed 350kg of stale fruits.

Speaking on the occasion, the director operations said they destroyed around 750 kg of rotten fruits during the crackdown and also seized 150 packets of teal leaf over poor quality and unhygienic issues.

She said that the PFA would continue the crackdown on vendor selling rotten and substandard commodities.

Separately, Food Safety Officer Tahira Kalsoom along with team members also raided surrounding areas of the shrine of Sufi saint Hazrat Ali Hajveri (AS), and sealed the production unit of Nadeem Sweets over unhygienic conditions.

She said that the PFA destroyed 66kg of cooking oil, 75kg of unhygienic juice and approximately 100kg of sweets over germ-infested issues. She said that they were using substandard and textile colours during the manufacturing of sweets.

Meanwhile, Newly elected Lord Mayor Lahore Colonel (r) Mubashar Javaid along with union council chairmen and CDGL officials visited the Shahdman Sunday Bazaar and showed satisfaction over food quality, price and security.

It may be mentioned that the Sunday bazaars have been set up by the City District Government Lahore (CDGL) with an aim to provide good quality of food on cheaper rates.
