ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court will hear a contempt petition against former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf with reference to charges of treason on March 7. Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Asif Saeed Khosa, will head a three-member bench to hear a petition filed by a lawyer on behalf of Lahore High Court Bar over Musharraf’s proclamation of emergency rule and suspension of constitution on November 3, 2007. Justice Mazhar Alam and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah will also a part of the bench. The petition has been filed to initiate a high treason case under Article 6 of the Constitution against Musharraf . While this case started its procceding under the government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), only months after winning general polls in May 2013, the trial has not yet been concluded because of various hurdles. The former president had gone abroad to address his health reasons and is yet to return. Previously, the special court had directed in October 2018 to form a judicial commission to record his statement under Section 342 CrPC in this regard.
