Food poisoning case: Samples sent for chemical analysis

Karachi University’s Hussain Ebrahim Jamal (HEJ) Research Institute of Chemistry, on Sunday, received samples collected by the Sindh Food Authority in an alleged case of fatal food poisoning that claimed six lives in Karachi.

HEJ research institute’s official, Shakeel Ahmed, affirmed that they had received the samples collected from the guest house, where the deceased was staying, which have been sent to three different chemical laboratories.

The institute will compile its final report in light of reports of chemical analysis and postmortem, which would ascertain the cause of death of the six deceased.

Five siblings and their paternal aunt died in a suspected case of food poisoning in Karachi after eating biryani from a well-known restaurant near their guest house. The victims were admitted to the hospital in a critical condition on February 21 where they breathed their last. Karachi Police constituted a team to investigate their deaths on directions from

Karachi Additional Inspector-General (AIG), Dr Amir Sheikh. The team is being headed by South Deputy Inspector-General (DIG), Sharjeel Kharal and includes South Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South, Pir Mohammed Shah, and Superintendent of Police (SP), Tariq Dharejo.
