Karachi: Workers of National Trade Union Federation, Inqalabi Socialist, Communist Party of Pakistan, Jiye Sindh Mahaz and a number of political and social activists, including a large number of women activists held a protest demonstration outside Karachi Press Club against the forced abduction of Professor Salman Haider and others on Monday.

They were carrying placards and were chanting slogans. On the occasion, addressing the protesting workers, NTUF deputy general secretary Nasir Mansoor, CPP Rasheed Taj, Inqalabi Socialist’s Dr Riaz Ahmed, HBWWF general secretary Zehra Khan, JSM’s Abdul Khaliq Junejo and others expressed their concerns over the growing cases of ‘mysterious disappearances’ of intellectuals, critics and political activists are evident of the law less ness prevailing across the country.

“The National Assembly, Senate and especially Supreme Court should take notice of the situation and get the abductees recovered. If someone is allegedly involved in any criminal activities, he/she should be presented in a court,” they demanded.

They also demanded that the recently abducted Islamabad-based professor Salman Haider and others should immediately be recovered and those behind their kidnapping should be dealt according to the law.

The speakers criticized the government for its false claims of having democratic means set in place across the board. They said that on the contrary peaceful political and social activists were not only being picked but made forcibly disappeared.

On the other hand, they said that banned outfits were openly holding their rallies, public gatherings and meeting with high officials in federal capital.

“If the government will continue with these policies and the elected representatives in parliament did not play their role then there will be no other option left other than resistance,” they remarked.

They demanded that Salman Haider and others should immediately be recovered and the perpetrators of their abduction should be held accountable.
