Hiring on merit demanded for Sindh universities

Author: Staff Report

HYDERABAD: The office-bearers of the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) have demanded appointments on higher seats in all universities of Sindh on merit instead on ad-hoc base. Addressing a press conference here at the Hyderabad Press Club, FAPUASA office bearers Dr Shahnawaz Talpur, Dr Shakeel Farooqui, Prof Naimat Leghari and Arfana Mallah said that the education system would get negative impact with appointments of blue-eyed persons on political basis. They said that the government had held out assurance that vice chancellors, registrars, controllers of examination, directors for administrations and accountants would be appointed in the universities on merit basis, but no action has been made to fulfill this commitment and all posts are being filled on political basis with intervention in affairs of the universities. They said that FAPUASA would organise a convention in Dow University of Karachi on Jan 25 where the teachers of all universities will discuss the prevailing situation and formulate a joint strategy for the resolution of the issues.
