Vocational skills should be commenced at NCPC

ISLAMABAD: Vocational skills training should be initiated at National Child Protection Center (NCPC) so that free technical education could be provided to homeless children.

During her visit to NCPC, Ministry of Human Rights Secretary Rabiya Javeri Agha stated that apart from formal educational, skill learning was also essential for the youth. She appreciated the services of the NCPC staff and advised them to utilise the space of the centre more appropriately.

The secretary was informed that most children engaged in beggary were brought here either by their parents or by police. NCPC Director Muhammad Yousaf Shah told the secretary that the centre was already providing education from nursery to class two after which the children would be enrolled in government schools to pursue higher education.

The secretary was informed that the school uniforms were being stitched by girls within the centre under the supervision of a trained teacher. Girls belonging to the slum communities were also learning sewing skills in order to earn a respectable living, it was further told.

Jeveri on the occasion donated a sewing machine to a needy girl, Rubina, who worked at the NCPC sewing centre.

Ministry of Human Rights Joint Secretary Humaira Azam and International Cooperation Director General Muhammed Hassan Mangi were also present on the occasion.
