Lahore Higher Court grants bail to opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif

The Lahore High Court on Thursday accepted Shahbaz Sharif’s request for bail in the Ashiana-i-Iqbal Housing Scheme and Ramzan Sugar Mills cases.
The Ex Chief Minister Punjab has been accused of misuse of power as the governing body of the Punjab Land Deve­lopment Company (PLDC), and granting an agreement to an ineligible intermediary firm that brought about the disappointment of the lodging plan. The trick made a misfortune people in general exchequer and denied 61,000 candidates of houses.

Shahbaz Sharif is granted bail after 80 days in custody by National Accountability Bureau. Under the law, a suspect can seek bail soon after being sent on judicial remand by the trial court. NAB had asserted that Shahbaz, as CM of Punjab, had issued a mandate for development of a channel in Chiniot locale essentially for the utilization of Ramzan Sugar Mills claimed by his children. It said Rs200 million were spent on it. LHC Justice Shahzad asked whether other works apart from the drain had been undertaken in the district. Shahbaz’s legal counselor Amjad Pervez shared subtleties and a practicality report relating to sewage and sanitation works in the zone in court. He told the court that the National Assembly and bureau had endorsed the advancement plan.

Shahbaz Sharif was taken into custody by NAB Lahore in connection with the Ashiana Housing case in October 2018.

The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz president has been granted bail in the Ashiyana Housing case and the Ramzan Sugar Mills case.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan, after accepting Sharif’s request for bail, ordered his release.
