Thousands arrested in Punjab alone for violating kite-flying ban

An anti-kite flying drive is being pursued vigorously by the present government across the province. During this campaign, which was initiated from February 1-12, as far as 3,390 cases were registered in different districts of Punjab against the violators of kite flying ban. Around 3,723 persons were arrested and 175,000 kites and over 7,000 string rolls were recovered from the accused.

As per details, 1,846 cases were registered for kite flying in Lahore and 1,971 persons were arrested. The police conducted raids on different kite shops and recovered twine coils in thousands of numbers. A total of 1,015 cases of kite flying were registered by the Faisalabad division which arrested 1,141 accused from different areas. Moreover, 41,488 kites and 2,899 twine rolls were recovered from the accused. The Gujranwala division has arrested 433 persons violating kite flying and recovered 43,813 kites and 1,613 string rolls. Rawalpindi division has registered 97 cases against the persons violating kite flying ban and 118 accused were arrested from whom 31,649 kites and 458 twine coils were recovered. An anti-kite flying campaign is also in full swing in Multan and police have arrested 16 accused so far. Moreover, 12,948 kites and 43 twine rolls were recovered after raiding kite shops.
