PESHAWAR: Residents of Rasheed Garhi Saadat Town Peshawar staged a protest demonstration against low gas pressure and demanded of SNGPL authorities to resolve their problems otherwise they would take to the streets to stage a sit-in.

The protest demonstration was led by Shah Foor Haji, Malak Habib-ur-Rahman, Jehangir, Zuber, Noor Mohammad, Niaz Haji, Bakht Noor, Hamish Gul, Anwar-ul-Haq and others. Speaking on the occasion Haji Noor Mohammad Khan and others said they were facing low gas pressure for the last two years but the authorities concerned were least bothered to restore proper gas supply to the area. They added that owing to low gas pressure their daily routine had been badly affected and the students could not reach their schools timely. They said that due to the growing population in the area their gas line was insufficient to fulfil their needs and needs a new line to provide the smooth supply of gas to the consumers.

They also criticised their elected representatives and said that after holding general elections the elected representatives never visited their areas to ask about their issues. They said that the residents would not vote for anyone in the upcoming general elections as they were badly disappointed by the attitude of their members as they were not serious about resolving their basic issues. The low gas pressure in winter has not only affected various areas of Peshawar but it has also affected the residents of Mardan, Swat and Hazara division.

Demand to provide basic amenities: On the call of Karak rights movement hundreds of protesters took to the streets against the non provision of basic amenities and held a protest sit-in at Jail Chowk here on Wednesday.

The protesters, led by Hayat Khattak, Zafar Khattak, Shabir Khattak and Haji Noor Jamal marched to Jail Chowk on the side of the Indus Highway and chanted slogans against the elected leadership of the district.

The speakers on the occasion strongly condemned the more than 20 hours of load shedding in the district and said that the load shedding had paralysed life in the district. They further claimed that the people of the district were purchasing drinking water at Rs 20 per gallon and regretted that the practice was no more affordable by the poor masses of the district.
