Nawaz wants to go back to jail: Maryam

Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, said on Tuesday that her ailing father doesn’t want to stay in hospital for treatment, a private TV channel reported.

“Nawaz Sharif doesn’t want to stay in hospital and wants to go back to jail,” she said while speaking to reporters at the Services Hospital Lahore where the three-time prime minister is currently being treated.

However, Punjab government spokesperson Dr Shahbaz Gill said no decision has been taken so far to move Nawaz Sharif back to jail. He confirmed that medical reports of the deposed prime minister have been received. “The decision regarding keeping Sharif in hospital or sending him back to jail will be taken in light of his medical reports,” he added.

The medical board had sent the examination report to the provincial home ministry, urging the Punjab government to shift the ousted prime minister to a hospital. Punjab Information Minister Fayazul Hasan Chohan had on Monday said Nawaz Sharif was given complete protocol even during his detention. He said Sharif’s medical report would soon come out and that it had no serious indicators regarding his health. “Only a stone is detected in his kidney,” he had added.
