LAHORE: A rashly driven tractor-trolley crushed to death two real siblings – Adnan, 20, and his younger sister Ayesha, 12 – in the precinct of the Nishtar Colonly police on Saturday.
According to details, Adnan was going to drop her two sisters – Ayesha and 10-year old Uroosa–to a school when their motorcycle was badly hit by a tractor-trolley near Rohi Nullah in Youhana Abad area, killing Adnan and Ayesha on the spot and injuring Uroosa.
The injured was shifted to a nearby hospital in a life-threatening condition while police shifted the dead bodies to city mortuary.
The driver of the trolley-driver managed to escape. Upon being informed, relatives of the deceased and area people reached the spot and started a protest by placed the dead bodies on the road. Resultantly, traffic remained jammed on Ferozepur Road and its surrounding areas.
Police reached the spot and assured the protesters that justice would be dispensed to the deceased family. The protesters said that heavy vehicular traffic should be banned in the area, as several people had been injured in the past in road accidents involving heavy vehicles.
Police said that heavy traffic would be banned on the road soon; however, proper awareness campaign would be started in this area as well other parts of the city to educate citizens.
Police also registered a case against unidentified driver and handed over the dead bodies to heirs after completing legal formalities.
Separately, a robber was allegedly killed in an encounter with police in wee hours of Saturday.
Police said robbers were escaping after snatching a cell phone and cash from a citizen, Rana Fahad. Police chased the robbers who opened fire on police officials. In retaliation, police killed a robber while his accomplice fled.
Police also recovered a pistol, a mobile phone and cash from the killed robber. Police removed the dead body to city mortuary for an autopsy. Further investigation was underway.
In another incident, a father of two committed suicide by jumping into BRB canal over some domestic issue in Batapur area.
According to rescuers, the man identified as 40-year-old Rashid of Jalo Morr had jumped into the canal two days ago over poor financial matters. On Saturday, rescuers pulled out the dead body and handed it over to his family members after fulfilling legal procedure.
