ISLAMABAD: Former president Asif Zardari will visit Washington to attend the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump scheduled on January 20.
Trump, who won the US election against Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton in November 2016, will take oath on January 20. This will mark an end to eight-year rule of Democratic Party.
The Trump’s team has formally invited Zardari to attend the inauguration and he would fly to the US on January 17, party source said.
During his stay in Washington, the former president will meet the officials of Trump administration and discuss issues of bilateral interest between Pakistan and the US.
Zardari will also discuss the relations between the US and Pakistan in context with terrorism and the support of Trump for Pakistan to eliminate terrorism once for all.
The government is silent over Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s attendance at the ceremony. Sources, however, said Nawaz is likely to visit the US to meet Trump.
