The Lahore School of Fashion Design held their interior design exhibition on Saturday. The event was open to public. In terms of art, this diploma thesis was a breath of fresh air, especially in terms of the beautiful installations and unique pieces of furniture designed by the students.

The exhibition was curated by Ailya Khan, who also acts as the students’ guide and mentor throughout the year.

The exhibition did not have a set theme but rather, touched points regarding all aspects of daily life. One such eye-catching part of the exhibition, however, was an installation on prominent poet and scholar Jaun Elia.

Presenting a tribute to Jaun Elia’s work, the designer Adil had created installations and light-pieces derived from the poetry of Elia.

The installation was widely appreciated by visitors. One such visitor Mehran, called the installation and the ideas it represented “refreshing” as compared to other forms of tribute the celebrated poet had received previously.

Another installation worth notice was by a student named Usman. His piece gave visitors the liberty and unique experience to create their own music by interaction. By filling an entire room with sensors that he had programmed himself, the artist provided a unique experience to the visitors that was widely praised and appreciated by everyone. One such participant, Sana, expressed the piece as being “more like magic”.

Other works included Habiba’s children’s nursery that focused on low-cost solutions for day care facilities in government offices and institutes.

And Usman Shafique’s bus stop designs that were inspired by Old Lahore.

All in all, the exhibition was a success as all the artists and designers landed internships and jobs on opening day.

“It makes me very proud to see my students succeed in this way, I truly believe that if one puts their mind to something, they can achieve it; and these students have proven that. They did not have the basic education like other students from bigger art universities but I can proudly say that their work is at par with any other design student from any other institute,” Ailya Khan said.
