NAB to investigate corruption charges against acting MD RWMC

The district administration has finalized inquiry against the Acting Managing Director (MD) of the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) and recommended to send the case to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for further investigation into corruption charges against the MD and other officials involved in corruption worth millions of rupees.

Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Dr. Umer Jehangir vide order No. 2824/ADC (HQ)/AC on July 10, 2018 had constituted an inquiry committee to probe into the allegations leveled by Senior Manager RWMC Muhammad Husnain regarding the irregularities and corruption in the company.

Senior Manager at RWMC Muhammad Hussnain in his complaint to DC Rawalpindi claimed that appointment of Secretary RWMC Rizwan Sherdil is illegal, the secretary who is also acting MD did not qualify for this post but was appointed in gross violation of rules.

He has also alleged that payment of Rs 273 million was made illegally in August 2017 for the land purchase without approval from the board while the company’s cars are also illegally provided to the politicians and officers.

Sources said that after six months, the Assistant Deputy Commissioner Nausheen Sarwar has finalized the inquiry and submitted his report to the Deputy Commissioner who is also the acting Chairman RWMC, but the DC halted the implementation on the inquiry committee recommendations.

A senior official at district administration wishing anonymity said, during the inquiry it is proved that the promotion of Rizwan Sherdil as secretary is illegal. The inquiry committee has recommended the case to be referred to the National Accountability Bureau to initiate criminal proceeding against Rizwan Sherdil and other officials involved in alleged corruption.

It is pertinent to mention that another inquiry against the acting MD RWMC regarding corruption charges is also pending in the Anti-Corruption Establishment for almost last one year.
