An ignored sin

Author: Daily Times

Sir: After attending a wedding party one evening, as my family and I were leaving for home, my brother, who was talking to a man standing outside the wedding hall, came to my mother and told her that the person was asking for help.

The man looked very poor and told us that his family had been starving for the last many days and his children had not eaten properly for months. He was simply asking for some food. I became very dejected after hearing his sad story. At the wedding party, I had seen that almost all guests were trying to fill their plates with as much food as they could, even if they did not have the appetite to eat that much and later wasted it. When these people were wasting food, there were some others starving!

What I am asking is simply, why do people waste food, ignoring the negative effects of this act in society? Why do they not realise what they are doing?
