Petrol, diesel prices go up

ISLAMABAD: The Nawaz-led government on Sunday decided to increase prices of petrol by Rs 1.77 per litre and high speed diesel (HSD) by Rs 2 per litre for the next two weeks.

The decision was announced by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar during a news conference, Radio Pakistan reported. However, the prices of light diesel oil and kerosene oil will remain the same from January 16-31.

According to the minister, the treasury will bear the burden of Rs 2.75 billion as subsidy for this period on petroleum products.

The price change came two weeks after the government decided on December 31 to revise prices of petrol and HSD on fortnightly basis.

Dar said the price of petrol had been increased in line with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA)’s recommendations.
