At least three people were killed when an avalanche hit the truck traveling in Kashmir on Friday, and seven more people were missing, officials said.

After the avalanche in the Ladakh area of the heavily militarized Himalayan region, the army began search and rescue operations, said Rajesh Kalia, a senior army officer.

Previously, the arterial Jammu-Srinagar highway was closed on Monday due to snowfall. The vehicular traffic was restricted on the highway due to continuous snowfall. The meteorological department has predicted moderate to heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, while a high-danger avalanche warning was also issued for parts of the state, quoted IndianTimes. The avalanche hit the truck carrying 10 persons at the Khardung La pass in the Ladakh region, Border Roads Organization (BRO) said.
