ATC summons witnesses in Azam Tariq murder case

While resuming the hearing of a case pertaining to murder of Maulana Azam Tariq, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) Thursday issued summons for prosecution witnesses on the next date of hearing. During the hearing by ATC judge Shahrukh Arjumand, the prosecution informed the court that the doctor who prepared the medico-legal report has retired from service and is residing outside the country and needs some time to appear. The court accepted the request and summoned the witnesses on the next hearing. The ATC expressed anger over non-production of case property and directed for criminal proceedings against the investigation officer. All the accused were present in the court. The hearing was later adjourned till February 6. Some 13 suspects were booked by Islamabad Police in the murder case of MaulanaAzam Tariq, who was gunned down by assailants in 2003 in the remits of Islamabad’s Golra police. It is worth mentioning here that prosecution has already filed an appeal in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) challenging the acquittal of SibtainKazmiin the case.
