BAHAWALPUR: The district administration has launched the Examergency – an emergency campaign – in the public schools of Bahawalpur for the next three months in view of the fast approaching exam season.

As part of this campaign, headmasters and teachers of the schools will make extra efforts to help their students for the exams. The students of the ninth and the 10th grades will be focused in the campaign. Mainly, the reason behind the campaign is the poor results of the public schools in which around 50% students tend to fail in any given board exams.

In a press statement, Deputy Commissioner Dr Ehtasham Anwar Mahaar said that the poor results would not be acceptable that’s why they had decided to reverse the trend in the district with the campaign. The idea of the campaign was introduced in a recently-held meeting of the principals and representatives of the schools from all over the district.

In the meeting, not only broad outline of the campaign was shared but attractive prizes, including cash, were also announced for those principals, teachers and the students who would show good results in the upcoming exams. A letter has been sent to every individual teacher in the district, under the signatures of the deputy commissioner, to eradicate any communication gap, to apprise them of the sensitivity of the situation, and to motivate them to play their due roles.

At the same time, coordination is being made with the parents to ensure that they keep proper supervision of their children at homes too during these months. It was noted that hardly any student of the public schools grabbed any position in the last board exams. In Bahawalpur city and other subdivisions, the concept of superclass was introduced to gather extraordinary students from various public schools at one place and given special attention and extra hours to help them grab top positions in the board exams.

The additional deputy commissioners and the assistant commissioners as well as staff of the District Education Authority have been mobilised to visit the schools in their respective areas regularly and extensively, and to personally supervise preparation for the exams. They have been advised to take up teaching, where possible, to express solidarity with the teachers and the students, and to infuse further energy in the campaign.

In order to lead from the front, the deputy commissioner will teach biology subject at the Government Abbasia High School and the Government Girls High School in Model Town. During the campaign, the modern teaching and the assessment tools are being adopted. In this regard, help was also sought from the management of the private schools and academies whose students have continuously been showing extraordinary performance in the board exams.
