LAHORE: A full bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) summoned provincial minister Zaeem Hussain Qadri to explain his position in establishment of the Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU)’s sub-campus in Lahore. The Bench sought personal appearance of provincial minister Qadri on January 19 and also summoned complete record of the students of the sub-campus enrolled with the main campus in Multan. The bench was hearing the petition of students against the university administration after the Higher Education Commission (HEC) had declared it illegal and the campus was closed for the students. During the proceedings on Tuesday, it was told that a 2013 notification, approving establishment of the sub-campus carried signature of Zaeem Qadri – the then special assistant to the Punjab chief minister. It was also disclosed that approval of the campus was granted the day the application was filed without waiting for a complete summary from the chief minister. On a query, former BZU vice chancellor Khawaja Alqama admitted that approval from the syndicate was not sought for the establishment of the sub-campus. The bench was further informed that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was also probing into the sub-campus scam.
