Accountability begins at home, Siraj tells Imran

Jamaat-e-Islami chief Senator Sirajul Haq Saturday asked Prime Minister Imran Khan to begin accountability from his own home as per his promise so that nobody can raise any objection on the process.

Talking to media after addressing a workshop for party workers at Mansoora, Siraj said the prime minister had himself promised that he would begin the process of accountability from his home. “Now that an allegation has been levelled against a member of the prime minister’s family and corruption cases are also pending against some of the members of the federal cabinet, justice demands trial of these people like anyone else,” he said.

Siraj said the PTI is in power for last more than five months but real accountability has not started yet. He said former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been disqualified but the other 436 people named in the Panama leaks have not even been summoned so far.

The JI chief said the PTI leadership had promised to retrieve the billions of dollars plundered by some Pakistanis and transferred abroad. “However, not even a penny of this has been recovered so far. Similarly, there is no progress towards creation of 10 million jobs as promised. Instead, some of government policies and actions have led to increase in unemployment,” he said.

Siraj slated recent hike in prices of medicines and demanded its immediate withdrawal. He said the rulers had announced to abolish the culture of protocol and adopt austerity but there seems to be no difference on this count between the past and the present rulers.
