The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday nominated Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif and Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz as accused in the Ramzan Sugar Mills reference.
The NAB has sent the reference to Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal for approval by the executive board.
The reference comprises 600 pages, including statements of witnesses as well as the former deputy commissioner along with records of the approval of the contract.
Witnesses in the case include DrTauqeer Shah, former principal secretary to Shahbaz Sharif, and other officials.
The probe into the case regarding construction of nullah in Chiniot worth Rs210 million was initiated in March 2018. Additional secretary to Punjab chief minister Hamid Amir Ali Malik had told NAB at that time that the contract of the project was approved on Shehbaz Sharif’s orders.
