Sindh police on Wednesday hinted involvement of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s London and South Africa chapters behind the tragic assassination of former lawmaker Syed Ali Raza Abidi.
Syed Ali Raza Abidi was shot multiple times outside his residence in Khayaban-e-Ghazi neighbourhood of Defense Housing Authority by unknown assailants on December 25, who fled from the scene. He was shifted to Pakistan Navy Ship Shifa Hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his wounds.
Speaking to the press, Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) South Pir Muhammad Shah said that the investigation conducted so far has shown that members of London and South Africa group arrived in Karachi prior to Ali Raza Abidi’s assassination.
The investigation, however, is still under way, the official added.
Authorities have decided to probe the suspects affiliated with MQM-London jailed in different cases, the SSP said.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, earlier in a meeting with the deceased’s father, said that a “significant arrest” had been made in the case.
CM Shah apprised Raza Abidi’s father of the probe conducted so far and informed that the key arrest was made from Karachi airport. He assured that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
