LAHORE: The Undergrad Degree Show 2016 was kicked off at the National College of Arts (NCA)’s Zahoorul Akhlaq Gallery on Wednesday where around 200 students’ final thesis and projects were displayed.

The show was inaugurated by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Dr Asif Kirmani along with NCA Principal Prof Dr Murtaza Jafri. NCA faculty members, students, hundreds of art lovers, educationists were also present on the occasion.

After the successful completion of four-year degree programme, 200 students from eight different departments displayed their artwork, including fine art, visual communication design, ceramic design, product design and textile design.

Artworks created in the form of paintings, prints, sculptures, installations, video installations and drawings reasserted the notion of art without boundaries or restrictions. The work produced by students from the Department of Fine Art this year confirmed the fact that the endeavour of art making was a passage from personal to public; a journey from solitude of studio to the open arena of art world.

Talking to media, Dr Asif Kirmani said that the NCA had made its mark on the world map as one of the leading institute of Pakistan. He said that it was an honour for him to witness such an amazing talent and get inspired from the artworks of students.

Prof Dr Murtaza Jafri said that this was a proud moment for any teacher or an institute that after four years of bonding and hardships the students had passed graduation with dignity and pride. “More than 200 students graduated every year and this is a collective effort of our faculty team and students. The NCA has been very busy in training its students with the best possible way to be successful in every creative field,” he added.

The degree show will remain open until February 3.
