ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday noted the illegal occupation of Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) land, ordering a report on the issue within three days.

Chief Justice Nisar took notice of the application submitted by University authorities, which alleged that that the university had paid for 1709 acres of land. It added that though the area had been handed over to QAU officials in 1972 however its vacant possession had still not been given by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

The university has continuously faced land grabbing and encroachments problems, going back to when they were original allocated the land in 1967 and 1972.

It has lost control of over 600 acres of its estate till now, with some pointing out that  if land grabbing activities and the illegal occupation of the university’s estate is not checked, then in the future there may not be any area left to call a university campus.

The application also highlighted that the alleged land grabbers and illegal occupants were politically influential people, which has made the situation worse for the university.

The application further stated that QAU approached almost every authority to help them resolve the issue but it has been in vain.

Taking cognisance of the matter, the CJP has directed the CDA chairman and the interior ministry secretary to submit detailed reports on the issue within three days.
