EU representative visits local communities in Thatta

SAJAWAL: Under the SUCCESS Programme, George Dehoux, a representative of the European Union, participated in meetings at Village Fateh Muhammad Jat, Union Council Ghotaro and other Union Councils in District Sujawal.

During the meeting, the EU representative received presentations by female members of the community organisations and discussed the rural development as well as the nutrition of children.

In the presentations, the community organisations shared profiles of the settlements and their achievements under this programme.

The EU representative said that this programme is very essential for the rural development because it focuses on the participation of women who are core members of every household.

He also said so far, the progress under this programme is incredible and we believe that in coming days it will bring even more power to the rural communities to be more self-reliant and stable regarding thier economy.

Georges attended meetings of community organisations in Union Council Marho Bola Khan, Tehsil Jati where he asked about the living standards of the community and its link towards the nutrition in children.

Answering a question during the discussion, Mr. Georges described that we are working withthe government of Sindh in the field of primary education and we will continue to improve the education level of rural communities, but it is very important for us to work with community organisations because we believe they are the ultimate power and potential to do this. Because these organisations under SUCCESS Programme are women focused and since women are the integral member of every household that is why we believe they perform better when they get opportunities.

With the delegation, European Union, representative of Rural Support Programme Network (RSPN) Fazal Saadi also emphasised on the girl’s education, mobilizing community towards education and development is the key role of these community organizations.

During the visit, representatives of National Rural Support Programme (NRSP), Ghulam Mustafa Jamro, Nazar Joyo, Mohammad Yousif, Pervez Ahmed, Mansoor Khoso, Meer Murk and others were also present.

After that delegation had meeting with government representatives Shahzad Fazal Abbasi (Deputy Commissioner Sujawal), Tufail Ahmed Temro (DO Education), Liaquat Sehto (Deputy Director Social Welfare) and Dr. Zahid Khatti (Livestock Officer).
