ISLAMABAD: The personnel of the federal capital Islamabad have been using vehicles and motorbikes that were impounded by different police stations in the cases of car theft or tampered documents since long. They have been using the vehicles without any check
Whereas on the other hand the original owners of these vehicles are attempting hard to retrieve back their cars and motorcycles from the clutches of the police. But the police simply tell them that their car is confiscated under Article 550 of PPC and it would be returned to them on ‘Superdari’ .
However, when the owners move an application for a legal process to take possession of their vehicle, the police official makes the matter so difficult and complex that it becomes very hard for them to get back their car.
The sources in the police department said that the police official before using stolen vehicles, used to tamper the engine and chassis number and moreover they changed the number plates too.
The sources told this scribe that at present at least 250 cars and bikes are in the personal use of the policemen from ASI to SP level or their close relatives.
The police officials adopted another method that they use to steal the parts of the apprehended cars, parked in the police stations at night through their own motor mechanics and sell them in the market or fix them in their own cars.
They usually take the latest model vehicles for their personal use from the owners of the car showrooms and in return the police help them by going out of way in many matters.
