Arrival of Pakistan’s first ever scheduled freight train to be celebrated

Marine Group of Companies in collaboration with Pakistan Railways’ Freight Transport Company (PRFTC) is hosting a ceremony to celebrate the arrival of Pakistan’s first ever scheduled freight train under public-private partnership at Marine International Container Terminal (MICT), Prem Nagar Dry Port.

Pakistan Railways officials, senior custom officials, representatives from business community and clearing agents as well as forwarders, were also present to grace the occasion and appreciated the government and private sector’s combined initiative for enhancing trade activity in the country.

In order to facilitate the transportation needs of the business community, these freight trains will run on daily basis in the first phase and then another train will be added later on between Lahore and Karachi while other sectors including Multan, Faisalabad and Sialkot would also be added into the network.

MICT is the company of Marine group which operates in bonded / non bonded storage and delivery facility.

The demand of the private sector has been there since long to operate a schedule train which Marine group has under taken to offer door to door service. The group is confident that this initiative will not only regain the lost confidence of the traders, also the industry can get the maximum benefit from this joint venture.

Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, recently had inaugurated Pakistan’s first public private sector rail cargo transportation facility in Karachi. While addressing the media, the federal minister vowed to revive Pakistan Railways, with the help of private sector in a short span of time.
