PU VC asks students to focus on research

LAHORE: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir Friday said that student could reach new heights of their career and professional excellence through inventions and discoveries.

He was talking to students during his visit to Punjab University Centre for Coal Technology. Faculty of Engineering and Technology Dean Prof Dr Taqi Zahid Butt, Centre for Coal Technology Director Prof Dr Shahid Munir and faculty members were also present on the occasion.

Dr Zafar Mueen visited various state-of-the-art coal laboratories set up at the centre. Giving detailed briefing regarding equipment at the centre, Dr Shahid Munir said that the machinery being used for research on coal was the latest and few machines were even not available in any other research institutions in Pakistan and India. He said that the high-tech machines had been made in US, Italy, Austria and England, which were being used in the renowned coal laboratories of the world.

He said that some of the machines had also been locally manufactured to save money. He said that the centre had industry linkages with more than any other department of the university. He said that industries were benefiting from the experiments and research at the centre. He said that the centre would compete India and would produce engineers to meet the growing need of the country. He said that the centre would play its role in uplifting economy of the country.

The centre, he said, would offer various exclusive programmes from BS to PhD level that would meet present and future engineering needs. He said that the centre had largest book bank in coal technology. PU VC Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir lauded the research activities and assured all-out support for research projects.
