KARACHI: Police on Saturday arrested five suspects in the minor girl’s abuse case on the identification of the victim family, police sources said.

The suspects were taken into custody from Ibrahim Hyderi area.

Police will show their faces to the victim girl for identification. A six-year-old girl was found in critically injured condition in a drain in the limits of Ibrahim Hyderi police station on Thursday evening. Her throat and hands bore stab wounds. Unidentified suspects molested the girl and later tried to kill her.

She was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for treatment. After a medical examination, it was confirmed that the girl has been abused. The condition of the child has improved as now she was out of danger after treatment at the CHK trauma centre.

Police investigators have collected samples for minor girl’s DNA profile that will be used to match with the suspects’ DNA to verify their involvement. The suspects’ DNA samples have also been collected.

Police said the sample will be sent to Jamshoro University and it usually takes about two weeks to obtain the results. Police will try to get the report as soon as possible, an official said.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar on Friday took notice of the incident and ordered an inquiry into the matter. IG Sindh AD Khawaja had called up the high officials of Malir Zone for a briefing on the case.

The victim girl is believed to be only six years old, and a resident of Korangi. She went missing on Thursday morning. She left her house as per usual but did not return home by evening. The family became worried and started searching for her. The family did not learn about the incident until the media began reporting about it.

A medical board examining the six-year-old girl has said that she is recovering fast.

The girl has been advised treatment for psychological trauma to relieve her from the psychological and mental distress. According to board, the girl is being fed through a tube.

“More medical tests would be sought for further examination in coming days. Even after the recovery from her ailment, the girl would remain in the Trauma Center for another three months,” DMS Trauma Center Dr Aamir Raza told media persons.
