Author: Arsalan Haider

Legendary Persian poet and jurist Jalaluddin Rumi was remembered by Lahore College for Women University (LCMU) Persian Department on his 745th death anniversary on Monday.

Punjab Information Minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan was the chief guest whereas LCMU Vice Chancellor Dr Farkhanda Manzoor, Iranian Consular General Reza Naziri, faculty members and large number of students attended the function.

Jalaludddin Rumi was a Sufi poet who was also founder of the whirling darvaish.

Reza Naziri while expressing his views about Rumi said that importance of Rumi’s poetry and Persian language has not been decreased with the passage of time, but rather has been increased. He also expressed hope that Pakistan can play role in bringing neighbouring countries closer by spreading Rumi’s message of peace and tolerance.

Information Minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan declared mysticism as knowing actual place of man and establishing a bond with his creator Allah the Almighty. He further added that unity of Muslims is the need of the hour and such functions may become a source of bringing the two brother countries together as Pakistan is very keen to establish stronger and closer relations with Iran.

LCMU VC Professor Dr Farkhanda Manzoor in her vote of thanks agreed with the views expressed by the chief guest and said that conflicts should be resolved through mystical poetry and Rumi’s poetry is the best example for that.
