Institutional reforms are the need of hour: Dr Ishrat Hussain

LAHORE: A marathon meeting lasting seven hours was held at the Chief Minister’s Office on Saturday under the chairmanship of Punjab CM Usman Buzdar to review progress on the 100-day agenda of the provincial government.

Ministers and secretaries of various departments gave briefing on the 100-day plan of their concerning departments. The chief minister asked them questions about their performance. He sought details of measures taken by their concerning departments and benefits reached to the public due to their reforms. He asked them what benefits of their measures and reforms will be received by the people of the province in the next five years. He directed them to submit a written plan in this regard in two days. The CM said departments have worked round-the-clock to decide their targets and achieve them. A new period of development and progress will start due to the 100-day plan. He said the Punjab government has set its priorities after a detailed review of resources and circumstances of the province. Resolution of problems of the common man, provision of basic facilities, social and economic justice and improvement of social sector are included in priorities.

“The hard work done by ministers and secretaries for the 100-day plan is praiseworthy,” he said adding that we have worked jointly for the development and progress of the people of the province. We have to work day and night to materialise the dream of change of Prime Minister Imran Khan. Punjab will be at the forefront of the implementation of the agenda of PM Imran Khan. The 100-day agenda of the prime minister is the agenda of development and progress. The chief minister was briefed about targets and future plans of departments of health, livestock, forests, women development, irrigation, industry, manpower and labour, primary and secondary education, tourism, local government, agriculture and housing. Senior Provincial Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Provincial Ministers Hashim Jawan Bakht, Yasmin Rashid, Sibtain Khan, Mehmood-ur-Rashid, Mohsin Leghari, Murad Raas, Ansar Majeed, Mian Aslam Iqbal, Ashfq Riaz, Yasir Hamayun, Malik Nouman Langrial, Sardar Husnain Bahadur Dareshak, Taimoor Khan, Spokesman to CM Shahbaz Gill, secretaries of concerning departments and senior officers attended the meeting.

Separately, Murad Raas and Rai Tamur Khan Bhatti also listened to the problems of the people along with the CM and assured them that their problems will be resolved.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Buzdar said he has been made the CM to resolve their problems.

Separately, Adviser to PM on Institutional Reforms & Austerity Dr Ishrat Hussain called on Buzdar and discussed measures regarding reforms, reconstruction, savings and austerity in government departments.

Speaking on the occasion, Buzdar said two taskforces have been formed for reforms in government departments and institutions as per the vision of Imran Khan.

“Efficient work will be done on the institutional reforms that will improve performance of departments,” he said.

Dr Ishrat Hussain said institutional reform is the demand of time and performance of departments can be improved through institutional reforms. Performance management should be focused. Food secretary, principal secretary to CM and senior officers were present in the meeting.

Buzdar in his message on the fourth anniversary of the martyrs of the Army Public School (APS) said “merciless beasts had brutally killed innocent school children on December 16, 2014. The children of the school and their parents have given great sacrifice for a great goal. The students of APS have written new history of bravery and courage. Their sacrifices have been paid and peace has returned to the country due to their sacrifices. The whole nation pays tribute to martyrs of the APS”, he said adding that the students of APS have written history with their blood for a secure and peaceful Pakistan.

“Their sacrifices will be remembered for ever. The whole nation is united against terrorism due to their sacrifices. The nation will not forget sacrifices of martyrs of APS. The martyred children and their teachers are heroes of the nation. We will not rest until complete elimination of terrorism,” he said adding that we can pay real tribute to APS students only by completely eliminating terrorism from our society.

Separately, Buzdar condemned the mine blast in Turbat as well.

He expressed grief and sorrow over the martyrdom of security officials and expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyrs and prayed for the early recovery of the injured security officials. He said the martyred security officials are heroes of the nation and peace has returned to the country due to their sacrifices.

Separately, Buzdar took notice of the death of two women in Rahwali area of Gujranwala due to alleged negligence in a private hospital.
