Japan-sponsored vocational centre opens in Mardan

PESHAWAR: The Embassy of Japan Funded Vocation Training Centre was inaugurated by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Government Senior Minister for Women Empowerment, Irrigation and Social Welfare, Sikiandar Hayat Khan Sherpao on Sunday at Village Inzergai, district Mardan.

The project was implemented by the National Integration Development Association (NIDA-Pakistan) and is the first of its kind in the region.

The minister lauded the efforts from the Embassy of Japan for streaming the culture of women empowerment in rural areas of KP province.

The ceremony was also attended by Senior Journalist Rahimullah Yusufzai, who also belongs to the same region, alongside officials of the local government, students and a number of people from different walks of life. The minister was informed by the official that the centre was established to promote the purpose of technical education among the females of far apart Pakhtun regions where the villages are not facilitated for modern education.

The centre will register 80 females in two shifts and will provide them the facility to learn basic training about cloth making, initials for learning international standard cloth designs. The main aim is to empower house business for women.

The minister streamed the Vocational Training Centre and said the Director Social Welfare should take these centres hand on to establish a market for home-made international standard accessories. He said the female Students at the centre would get government registration and their products would be introduced in the national and international commercial gales.

The official NIDA-Pakistan, Ihsanullah, while talking to Daily Times said that the land for the centre was attained by fixing the price on the ground and the amount was paid before starting work on the centre.

When asked that how would such an international standard vocational centre at a rural spot serve the interests to compete with national and international brands, he said, “It’s not a business but to provide a basic facility to the females of the region who for some reason failed to complete schooling.

He said the centre would compensate the students and would give a monthly amount to the registered female students.

He added that the need for the centre was highlighted by journalist Rahimullah Yusufzai for which the people of the area would thank him.

The provincial minister also announced to establish a special education centre at Katlang Shamozai and directed the authorities for spending time with the local people in order to know about the scale to initiate work on the school at a proper place.

Sikandar Khan Sherpao announced on the demand of the public the construction of Babozai small dam, timely construction of Baizai irrigation scheme and the lay out for the survey of Village Sangao Small Dam in district Mardan.

The minister said one billion rupees would be allocated for the construction of Babozai Small Dam in the next budget of the fiscal year.
