KP ready to hold LG polls in tribal districts: CM

Author: Staff Report

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan announced on Wednesday that all arrangements had been made to conduct the much-delayed local body ballot elections in tribal districts.

While speaking to newsmen, KP CM said that the election process would resume after chairman of the committee Atif Khan returned to the country.

CM Khan clarified that he had been summoned by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) earlier as witness, not an accused in the Malamjabba land lease case. “NAB has summoned me as an witness otherwise I have no connection with this case,” he reinforced. He said that he held immense respect for the institutions of Pakistan and he would present himself in court again if summoned. According to NAB officials, the CM was to be interrogated about his alleged involvement in the case because he was heading the KP ministry for sports during the previous Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

NAB had already questioned PTI Senator Mohsin Aziz and Minister for Youth Affairs Atif Khan for their alleged involvement in the Malamjabba lease case.

Both the minister and the senator would be summoned on December 14 to question them about their alleged corruption. Reportedly, 275 kanal of land was allegedly leased to a close relative of Atif Khan. The officials stated that the leasing of the land had dealt a huge blow to national exchequer.
