Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar said that the residents of Orangi Town were facing many problems including water and sewerage.

He said that water and sewerage did not directly pertain to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) but it had solved the problem by installing a sewerage line in the area. He said this while speaking in a ceremony held in the Mansoor Nagar UC 24 of Orangi Town after inspecting the lying of 18 inch dia sewerage pipeline in the area.

MPA Sadaqat Hussain, chairman district West Izhar Ahmed Khan, UC Chairman Shakeel Ahmed Imam and others also spoke on this occasion and said that sewerage problems of more than five UCs of Orangi were now solved because of this pipeline. “However, in past no attention was given to the problems of Orangi which have big population and the Mayor WasimAkhtar had won the hearts of people by doing this work in Orangi Town,” said the speakers.

Mayor Karachi said that water and sewerage board was not under the Mayor but he had still installed a line. He said that ten months ago it was even hard to pass through these streets due to sewage water overflow which stayed in the area and created ugly conditions.” We knew the basic problems of this area and the people of this area have this right that their problems are solved on priority basis,” he said.

Karachi mayor said that construction of roads would begin shortly after the sewage line was installed. He said that KMC and DMC had paid attention to the problems of the area but they were underfunded. He maintained that the resources of KMC were distributed to all parts of the city on equal basis so that every area received its fair share.
