RAWALPINDI: Pakistan on Tuesday conducted its first successful flight test of the Surface to Surface Ballistic Missile Ababeel, which has a maximum range of 2200 kilometres.
The missile is capable of delivering multiple warheads, using Multiple Independent Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology. The test flight was aimed at validating various designs and technical parameters of the weapon system.
Ababeel is capable of carrying nuclear warheads and has the capability to engage multiple targets with high precision, defeating the enemy’s hostile radars.
The development of the Ababeel Weapon System is aimed at ensuring the viability of Pakistan’s ballistic missiles in the growing regional Ballistic Missile Defence environment. This will further reinforce deterrence.
Army authorities such as the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff and Chief of Air Staff congratulated the involved scientists and engineers on the success of the missile test.
In addition the president and prime minister also conveyed their appreciation to the team and the armed forces on this landmark achievement.
