Revolutionary poet Josh Malihabadi remembered on 124th birth anniversary

The Josh Adabi Foundation and Josh Memorial Committee organised a literary conference at Rawalpindi Arts Council on Thursday to mark the 124th birth anniversary of revolutionary poet Josh Malihabadi.

Renowned scholar Dr Ghazanfar Mehdi presided over the conference while famous fiction writer Hameed Shahid was the chief guest.

Addressing on the occasion, Dr Ghazanfar Mehdi said that the poetry of Josh Malihabadi had a vital place in Urdu literature. It was need of the time to promote literary work of the revolutionary poet.

Hameed Shahid addressing the participants said Malihabadi was a poet of nature and due to his revolutionary ideas, he became famous forever. More research work on his poetry should be initiated which was the need of time, he added.

Malihabadi’s grandson Farrukh Jamal said that the name of Josh would be prominent in Urdu literature forever. His granddaughter Tabbasum Ikhlaq also threw light on the life and work of Malihabadi.

Later, a mehfil-e-mushaira was also held in which poets Naseem-e-Sehr, Wafa Chishti, Hassan Abbas Raza, Maeed Malik, Arshad Malik, Abdul Qadir Tabban and others paid tribute to Malihabadi through their poetry.
