Senate Standing Committee on Science & Technology members, accompanied by Ministry of Science & Technology Secretary Yasmin Masood, paid a visit to the main campus of National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) on Wednesday.
Led by committee chairman Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, the members included Senator Nuzhat Sadiq, Senator Muhammad Sabir Shah, Senator Gianchand and Senator Hilalur Rahman. Upon arrival, the senators were given a comprehensive briefing on NUST’s functioning, multi-dimensional growth, teaching and research facilities, mega projects, including the establishment of Pakistan’s first university-hosted science and technology park, called the National Science & Technology Park and the Medical Devices Development Centre, etc. In their remarks, the esteemed guests commended the efforts of NUST management, faculty and researchers towards earning the institution a respectable niche among world leaders in higher education and cutting-edge research. Stressing the need for promotion of quality tertiary education in the length and breadth of the country, Senate Standing Committee on Science & Technology chairman Mushtaq Ahmed admired NUST for taking its outreach initiatives to Balochistan and Federally Administered Tribal Areas/Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to provide equal opportunities for quality higher education to students from under-privileged and remote areas of Pakistan.
