AWKU hostels turn into safe haven for drug addict students

PESHAWAR: Abdul Wali Khan University (AWKU) Mardan has become a safe haven for drug user students residing in hostels uses Hashish and wine on regular basis administration official occasionally accompany students at nights.

According to the sources the students of the AWKU smoke Hasish (Charas) and drink wine in the premises of the university at nights in abundance form.

The administration and activists of the different political parties’ get-together and drink at the student’s hostel almost on daily basis as the police and other law enforcement agencies pay less attention to student’s hostels.

Keeping in view the demand of the different brands of local alcohols and Hashish in colossal form the drug peddlers of the district mostly shifted to surrounding area of the university with aim to reach the supply on time Daily Times has learned.

A newly admitted student from a university of Islamabad told this scribe that after spending one week in the hostel he reach to the conclusion that drug user students awake all night long, listening laud music and spent whole night by disturbing the other students.

The students alleged that some of the official of the University including teaching faculty and administration staff frequently visit boy’s hostels for the heinous purpose.

The security guard of the AWKU told this scribe on the request of anonymity that as soon as the sun goes down the students rushed out from their hostels to meet the drug peddlers and purchase their required stuff.

He said that the hotels located nearby with the campuses of the University have become the places of dealing of all sorts of drugs where peddlers provide the required stuff to students.

“We have submitted several written complaints in the office of the Public Relation Office (PRO) of the university and have verbally informed the administration of the sensitivity of the alarming situation but no effective steps have been taken so far,” he lamented.

Station Head Officer (SHO) Mardan city police station Ajab Khan said that some of the students, using drugs at hostels were arrested from the main campus about one month ago.

He said that since ha has taken charge as a SHO concert action has been launched in the area near to the university in order to stop the heinous practice. He said students of the university would not be allowed in market places to buy drugs and then use them in the hostels.

The Provost of the AWKU Ibrar Khan said that a team under his leadership has been working to keep vigilant eyes over the students of the university.

He said that three month ago some of the students were even ousted from the university as they were using and keeping drugs at the hostels.

“I myself raided at the hostels some one month ago and searched out all of the hostels of the university,” he added.

The university of AWKU intend to form a committee consist of teaching and administration official for the sole purpose of to stop students from drugs.
