The Lahore High Court (LHC) stayed the restoration of Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University former chief engineer works Muhammad Sohail on Monday and ordered registration of a case against him for committing corruption and inflicting heavy losses on the university.

A case has been registered against Arid University former works engineer Muhammad Sohail and investigations have started.

The syndicate of the university had ordered restoration of the accused to his post. However, the orders were challenged in the LHC, which has issued a stay order against the decision of the syndicate.

Muhammad Sohail is accused of committing massive corruption in development projects being executed at the university.

“He utterly failed to transparently execute any of the development projects of the university. Almost every project launched in his tenure ended up in litigations and legal complications,” a university official said while talking exclusively to Daily Times.

“The dilapidated condition of the New Academic Bloc, Veterinary Faculty, Bio-Chemistry Institute, Foreign Faculty Hostel and other buildings is a clear evidence of corruption committed by him,” he added.

The official said the university also suffered heavy losses on account of fees paid against litigations pending with different courts of law.

“Corruption allegations have also been proven against Sohail in the past, and he has even been jailed following an investigation by the anti-corruption department,” he added.
