Immigrants from Pakistan to undergo ‘extreme vetting’: Trump

WASHINGTON: United States President Donald Trump said in a recent interview that it would be hard for immigrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia to make it into America.

The three countries named are those which were not included in the list of seven countries whose immigrants were banned by Trump.

In an interview with American media, Trump was asked about these three countries which did not make it to a list that included those states whose citizens were suspended from getting US visas through a presidential executive order. In response to the question, Trump stated that people coming in from these three countries would undergo extreme vetting.

He said, “You’re going to see. We’re going to have extreme vetting in all cases. And I mean extreme. And we’re not letting people in if we think there’s even a little chance of some problem.” He added that the US government had excluded these countries, but these countries would experience extreme vetting and it would be really hard for people from those countries to come into the US.

The president said, “Right now it’s very easy to come in. It’s gonna be very, very hard. I don’t want terror in this country.”

To justify this need for ‘extreme vetting’, the president gave the examples of the San Bernardino shooting as well as the World Trade Centre attacks.

When Trump was questioned whether these moves would trigger anger and resentment among the countries included in the list, he responded that there already was anger among Muslims due to the invasion of Iraq.

He said, “The world is a mess. The world is as angry as it gets. What? You think this is gonna cause a little more anger? The world is an angry place. All of this has happened. We went into Iraq. We shouldn’t have gone into Iraq. We shouldn’t have gotten out the way we got out.”
