PTI doing politics of U-turns: Bilawal

GHIZER/KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Monday said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was only concerned about coming to power, which it achieved through rigging in the general election, a private TV channel reported.

Speaking at a rally here, Bilawal said the incumbent rulers were not interested in resolving the public issues. “Their destination was power, which they achieved by rigging [in the polls]. They do not do politics for the people, rather they take U-turns after making promises,” he said.

The PPP chairman said the politics of the incumbent rulers revolves around themselves. “Their economic policies have inundated the masses with a tsunami of inflation,” he said. “Those lecturing others on national honour are touring countries to take loans,” he added.

Bilawal said the politics of the PPP is centred around the poor and the oppressed. “We initiated Benazir Income Support Programme during Asif Ali Zardari’s regime. We made Gilgit-Baltistan autonomous by bringing reforms here, we gave subsidy on wheat, and we granted constitutional rights to the people here,” he said, promising to keep struggling for constitutional, political and democratic rights of the people of the region.

Bilawal said he had come to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan for the first time, but not the last. “I want your favour and support,” he asked the participants of the rally on the third day of his tour to the region.

Separately, in his message on the eve of the Universal Children’s Day, Bilawal said peace was the only guarantee for humanity to thrive and prosper and urged for imparting the importance of peace to the children to ensure that this planet is the safest dwelling for the future generations. “Children should be kept aloof from any kind of extremism to enable them grow into an integrated world cohesively living with ethnic, religious, and other diversities. It is the prime duty of the state, society, neighbours and parents to protect children from exploitation, violence and abuse besides providing them fair chances to grow together with education and health facilities,” he said.
