Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Umar Jahangir gave an ultimatum on Twitter on Sunday that any motorcyclist sans helmet will not be refueled at any fuel station from the month of December.
“Any motorcyclist not wearing a helmet will not be refueled at any fuel station in Rawalpindi after December 1, 2018. Directions have been issued to all fuel stations,” the deputy commissioner Tweeted.
Sharing a picture of a stall outside the office of the City Traffic Officer (CTO) with helmets, the DC wrote, “Helmets available on control rates for the facilitation of motorcyclists outside CTO Office, Rawalpindi. Please wear a helmet for yourself and your loved ones.” Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry hailed the initiative and responded on Twitter, “Brilliant idea. In Lahore, implementation of helmet law led to 63 percent reduction in head injuries. This idea is even better.”
The City Traffic Police on the directive of Lahore High Court had launched a campaign to make helmets compulsory for motorcyclists.
