PAK vs NZ First Test: New Zealand make a spirited comeback in 2nd innings

ABU DHABI: Pakistan, resuming at 59-2, were dismissed for 227 in their first innings on the second day of the first Test against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

Babar Azam top-scored with 62 while Asad Shafiq (43) and Haris Sohail (38) were other contributors, helping Pakistan to a 72-run lead over New Zealand´s first innings total of 153.

Trent Boult finished with 4-54 while debutant spinner Ajaz Patel and medium pacer Coiln de Grandhomme took two wickets apiece.

At lunch, Pakistan were 144-4 with Asad Shafiq (25) and Babar Azam (24) at the crease, trailing New Zealand’s first innings total of 153 by just nine runs.

The two added 53 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket stand to bolster Pakistan’s bid for a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

However, after play resumed, Ajaz Patel removed slipper Sarfraz Ahmed for his maiden Test wicket.

Sarfraz went back to the pavilion after scoring just two runs. Earlier, Shafiq became another one of Boult’s victims after scoring 43 runs.
