SC hears case regarding Dar’s return to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday was informed that the United Kingdom’s Home Office questions about former finance minister Ishaq Dar’s return to Pakistan has been forwarded to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) as they would answer them.

During the hearing, the additional attorney general had told the court that a prisoner exchange agreement had been signed between Pakistan and the United Kingdom (UK). He said that due to the agreement, Home Office (UK) had sent a questionnaire regarding former minister’s return to Pakistan.

However, the questionnaire has been forwarded to NAB as they will submit the response to the Home Office (UK), the additional attorney general added.

Chief Justice (CJ) Saqib Nisar mentioned that this process would take about at least one month. Moreover, he said that ex-finance minister could no longer use illness as an excuse, adding that Dar will have to return to Pakistan when he is provided justice.

Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan stated that justice cannot be provided if someone is that far away then the apex court adjourned hearing of the case till one month.

The NAB had filed a reference against ex-finance minister Dar in light of the Supreme Court’s July 28 verdict in the Panama Papers case.
