Transgenders stage protest against Mardan police for forced eviction

PESHAWAR: A large number of transgender on Saturday staged protest demonstration outside Peshawar Press Club against district Mardan police for forceful evacuation of transgender houses aimed to stop the community function in the city.

Trans Action Alliance promptly response the action taken by the Mardan police and gathered outside the Peshawar Press Club and chanted slogans against the police attitude against them. Farzana Jan, who is leading the alliance the City Police Station DPO has issued directive to the police of the Mardan district to forcefully evacuate the houses of the transgenders.

Around 200 transgender of the district have left the district and their houses due to fear of the police torture and brutality Farzana Claimed. The protestors complained that all the actions against transgender community were carried out on the directives of DPO Mian Saeed and therefore Chief Minister Pervez Khattak should look into the matter seriously. “DPO Mian Saeed has categorically ordered to not leave any member of the community at the district” protestors alleged DPO Mardan.

Farzana Jan strongly criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provincial government for its failure to provide protection to the community and daily basis torture of the members of the community.

She demanded action against DPO Mardan adding that the displaced transgender members should be allowed to go back to their homes in Mardan. She warned to continue their protest if their demands were not fulfilled by tomorrow.
