LONDON: Author JK Rowling paid a tribute to beloved actor John Hurt who passed away on Wednesday.

Veteran British actor John Hurt died on Wednesday at the age of 77. He had played more than 100 roles, including the role of Ollivander in the Harry Potter series. JK Rowling took it to the social media to pay her regards for his death.

JK Rowling expressed her sentiments as she tweeted, stating, “So very sad to hear that the immensely talented and deeply beloved John Hurt has died. My thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Hurt’s role in the Harry Potter series had an integral role as he was the one to officially make Harry Potter realise that he was a wizard, other than Hagrid. Ollivander had given Harry his wand that made him officially a wizard.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone most memorable scene of all times was the one in which Ollivander handed Harry Potter several wands until Harry chose 11 inches wand that possessed Phoenix feather and was made of holly. “The wand chooses the wizard, Mr Potter. It’s not always clear why. But I think it is clear that we can expect great things from you,” stated Ollivander to the young boy in the first part.

During the last two parts of the series, Ollivander was tortured by Voldemort, the Dark Lord who played as the antagonist in the movie. Harry had rescued Ollivander and Ollivander told Harry about the connection that his wand had with Voldemort’s as well as the Elder wand, which was considered to be the most powerful wand of all times in the Wizarding world.

Hurt’s character had served as one of the most essential role in the last book, connecting dots and revealing secrets that helped Harry Potter defeat his enemies.

Hurt had touched several lives with his character as well as his heart warming nature. Various actors were saddened by his death and they paid a tribute, including Stephen Fry, Mel Brooks, Kiefer Sutherland, and Judith Light .

Ginny Weasley from the Harry Potter series played by actress Bonnie Wright also tweeted a tribute on twitter, stating in reference to his character Ollivander, “Wand shopping won’t be the same without you”.

All the Harry Potter fans would definitely agree with Bonnie Wright on that note.

Fans raised their wands outside the Ollivander’s shop in the Harry Potter themed Park to pay their tribute in the Harry Potter style.
